Michael Jackson Justice: Michael Says No to Deals with the Devil

God: Reconnect to Him

The Conspiracy against God is about "The Word", and the profaning of His Holy Name within us. Adam fell in the garden, breaking the direct connection to God. Jesus, the "last Adam" was a quickening Spirit, the Word made Flesh, and the only one with whom we can re-establish our relationship with God. Michael's story is still unfolding. He is the one who is, is not. But Jesus is the only name given under heaven by which we must be saved. Many are trying to rewrite HIStory. We were given a help to instruct us. Learn more "here".

Michael Says No to Deals with the Devil

Dec 13, 2010 – Deals with the Devil
The Presley Estate, Branca, Malnik and Michael

There is a blog update I wrote a while back that I had almost forgotten about until a friend sent me a Youtube video reminding me of a certain Gordon Novell.  Gordon was contacted by Jermaine Jackson, reportedly, to meet with Michael during the pre-trial preparations to talk about investigating the conspiracy against him.  I talk about Gordon on this blog update way back in June of this year here http://michaelsguardian.blogspot.com/2010/06/michael-novel-mottola-malnik-and.html .  Ironically “Justice4some” blog got started up the same month to defend Branca.

The article about Gordon Novel is interesting and I will have to revisit this at another time because back when I wrote it, I forgot about the words of wisdom from Michael “Just because it’s in print doesn’t make it Gospel”.  Click here

A quote from that article above that caught my attention?

“I contacted Novel over the weekend, and he confirmed meeting with Jackson at Neverland Valley during the time of the 2005 trial. He told me that he was originally contacted by Jackson's brother Jermaine and that Michael and the family wanted Novel to gather proof of the Malnik/Mottola conspiracy and further find evidence that Mottola was behind the criminal child molestation charges. The ultimate goal was to blow the trial out of the water so Jackson wouldn't have to face prison time.”

Now according to Johnnie Roberts of the Wrap, THIS is what happened:

“The abortive bailout was led by Goldman Sachs and included two others -- Charles Koppelman and Alvin Malnik.

A veteran music executive and investor, Koppelman and a partner had lost out to Jackson in the 1985 auction in which the performer acquired the Beatles catalogue. As Jackson's putative adviser, he recruited Goldman.”   Source

Is it just me, or do these previous partners seem to be putting out press to point the fingers at each other in the name of self preservation?

Part 1: How Jackson Nearly Lost His Prized Music Catalog
Part 2: A Music Superlawyer Goads Jackson Into "Thriller"
Part 3: How Jackson Snagged the Beatles' Songs
Part 4: Fired, the Superlawyer Returns to Bail Jackson Out

These are the parts to Johnnie L. Roberts series extolling the virtues of Branca.  He had Branca working with Malnik and Koppelman to try to strong-arm Michael into the Goldman Saks deal then in the same series of articles points the finger at Malnik suggesting Branca sent info to the U.S. Justice department asking them to look into his business dealings.  These are the people that have been surrounding Michael or hovering in some capacity, on a consistent basis since the days of the purchase of the catalog:

John Branca
Charles Koppelman
Martin Bandier
Tommy Mottola
J. Randy Taraborrelli (off and on, as a saboteur “journalist”)
Alan Grubman

Allen Grubman was the lawyer who was credited for Michael’s $30million dollar deal with Sony in 1991 when Branca wasn’t taking credit for it.  According to this Businessweek article from 1992:

“SMALL WORLD. The case is largely about conflict of interests in the music business, where everybody who is anybody knows everybody else. A clique of lawyers handles most of the deals--often while on retainer to both artists and their labels. In Grubman's case, the suit alleges that, although Joel's recording contract was with CBS Records, neither Grubman nor his firm ever "fully advised" Joel of its representation of CBS, or asked him to sign a conflict-of-interest waiver. "Isn't there a risk a lawyer isn't going to be as aggressive for the artist-client because he doesn't want to offend the record company which is hiring him to do other work?" says Joel's lawyer, Leonard M. Marks. Grubman claims the firm didn't represent CBS Records until shortly before Joel fired him.”  Source

In this same article, he mentions a relationship with Tommy Mottola:

"The relationships we've created allow us to do great things," says Grubman. He negotiated Michael Jackson's estimated $30 million deal with Sony Music and orchestrated Madonna's $60 million package with Time Warner Inc. His clients include superstars, plus top record companies and their executives, such as Sony Music President Tommy Mottola. "He makes you want to be in business with him," says megaproducer David Geffen.”

Wow.  Do you realize that is CBS, Allen Grubman, Sony Music and Tommy Mottola mentioned in two back to back paragraphs.  Billy Joel sued Grubman.  Yetnikoff and David Geffen are mentioned further down in this article.  Keep in mind that this particular article was written in 1992.   Also they have the amount wrong on the Sony deal. Michael’s contract with Sony in 1991  was for $65 million.

Ted Riley shows up in Michael’s life in this article for MTV news – “Things started off promisingly. In June 1990, Jackson began work on a new album, teaming this time with hotshot producer/ new-jack-swing innovator Teddy Riley, and in March 1991, Jackson renewed his contract with Sony for a then-record $65 million.”  Source

I find it a bit ironic that Michael’s first Contract with Sony was for $65 million and his estate’s first deal with Sony (This is It ) is for $65 Million. If Sony decides to try and market a Michael Jackson Trivial Pursuit game, there is an idea . . . I better hurry and get it patented before the steal my idea.

Goldman Sachs Deal a Turning Point for Michael

The people involved in the Goldman Sak’s attempted takeover of Michael’s share of Sony/ATV was Branca, Koppelman, Malnik and Heller.  On “The Wrap’s” version of this story we see Roberts trying to squeak Branca out as the only one looking out for Michael’s interests, however, Michael didn’t see it that way.   Branca was there for the purchase of this music catalog in 1985, he knew all these people and Branca stood to make much more than the $17million Johnnie L. Roberts says was Branca’s motivation to come to Michael’s aide.  Branca came to Branca's aid.  They'd been working on this deal for over a decade.  They wanted "their" catalog.

The documents showing up on “The Wrap” almost had me laughing.  “Current MJ Status as we understand it”??? Source

This Action of Written consent shows page one of a document dated September 29, 1999, and it states that Michael is granting decision making to the co-trustees, which are John Branca and Myung-Ho Lee WITH the approval or at the direction of the beneficiary (which would be Michael or MJ Publishing Trust).   There is no signatures showing on this one page document so I read further down on this article.

On page 2 of the full document here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/43788412/Jackson-s-70-Mil-Loan-Trustee-Malnik-BofA-Note-and-Sony  It shows Michael as signing this document on August 18, 2003.  There is just a couple of problems with this.

John Branca was not working for Michael during this time, he was fired in February of that year.  Second, Michael said no to this Goldman Sachs deal.  Third this signature looks like two signatures, almost a shadow of each other, one above and one below.  Why would Michael need to sign his last name twice?  It looks like a xerox copy of a document bearing evidence of a signature through carbon copy, almost as if  the paper got twisted and Michael resigned, only THIS document was underneath.  I'm not saying that is the case, but I am saying that is what this looks like given the oddity in the double signature for the last name.

Further down there are signatures by Al Malnik and John Branca.  This is for a promissory note.  Either John Branca was working with Malnik or he wasn’t.  Johnnie Roberts can’t seem to make up our minds.    What he does in presenting these documents is prove that everyone but Michael won out in this deal INCLUDING BRANCA.   Why would Branca now want to implicate a previous partner in this Goldman Sach’s debacle?  Given Branca’s unquestionable winfall in the last year and a half, I wonder if he now has to look over his shoulder as much as Michael did?

On this document: http://www.thewrap.com/sites/default/files/jackson%27s-goldman-loan_0.jpg The Goldman Sachs deal is laid out, if this is an authentic document.  Michael would receive a lump sum that was not enough to pay off both loans ($34 mil and the $200 mil), he would give up both his share of ATV plus his MiJac interests for 3.5 million a year for five years and a starting, but decreasing interest of 50% in the new catalog company that was geared to also take in EMI.

How Michael didn’t cold-cock Branca is beyond me.  Michael brought in four times the 3.4 million a year from his share of the ATV alone not counting his Mijac catalog.  Michael said no to this deal.  I can see why.  It benefited everyone except Michael.  EMI was being run by Marty Bandier at the time so we know he was attached to this deal at the other end.  Koppelman was previously Bandier’s partner in EMI or what became EMI.  Grubman doesn’t make an appearance in this deal, but I don’t doubt for a minute he was lurking as legal rep for someone in this group.

Dick Gregory Talks about Michael's Fear After the Trial

In a nutshell, this tight-knit group of lawyers wanted to leverage Michael’s ownership in both catalogs, one of his own work, the other he bought fair and square in a bid from a quirky corporate raider to buy up EMI and Warner, forming the largest music publishing empire in the world, while granting a decreasing share to Michael.  They, as one person I speak to put it . . . “They sent the kid after the golden ball.  He didn’t want to give it back.  Now they entice the kid to give them the golden ball in exchange for a piece of another golden ball that would disintegrate over time.”

Thank God “the kid” said no.

The same group of people, the same goal, the same tactics.  And despite everything they tried to do to him, he prevailed.  Now the other investment they had going . . . Martin Bashir and his documentary.  Michael told them to get lost.   It was time for them to give Sneddon the “go” sign.

  1. Hello Bonnie,

    After 3 days I felt like a junkie in "lack":lad you're back !

I actually just read the Blogger's last Post you mentioned & its related comment(er)s.

OK, I respect everyone's view but my view is :

    - Sony & their accomplices primarily & over the years endeavoured their very best to organize Michael's finances & career's demise : we know why. Pushed only by financial emergency of 2008 Michael signed for the London 02 grueling concerts. Although AEG is to me also accountable for abusing Michael's weak situation eventually leading to his death (or disappearence..as you prefer) Sony is the one that caused any tragic turn in Michael's career & life & the Estate Executors did not have Michael's interest at best either when still alive.

    - So I will NEVER buy any new Album aiming to further enrich Sony & their accomplices.

    - In spite of a few differences of opinions on some other issues (no proof either way is confirmed so far) I hold with you & your Blog & anyone basically thinking in that direction.

    >>> I believe most fans agree with you Line, that Sony and those involved with/surrounding that company were responsible for Michael's 20-year torment. These people built their careers around trying to manipulate him and control of that catalog. I look at the one(s) benefiting from Michael's (disappearance as I prefer) death and Branca and McClain are on both sides of the profit fence on this. Bandier is CEO of the Sony/ATV, Koppelman is waiting in the wings, Malnik has been shut down at least for now and Mottola said his piece and is also waiting in the wings.

It is amazing the lengths they went to and it's all right there, all the relationships, conflicts of interest it's unbelievable! There are quite a few people that believe Michael was used to obtain the catalog, only Michael took off with it. And the more I look at this, the more CONTROL of all this music seems to be as important as the money it is worth.

They wanted to control the largest catalog of music in the world, to include compositions from movies, etc and it is for a reason. Not just money. Michael was holding them up. He's still holding them up.

  5. Also, a funny thing happened yesterday. I got an interesting Christmas package in the mail with the most unusual Christmas gift. I wasn't going to mention it but I thought I better publicize it on the blog.

Someone thought it would be funny to send me a small box of cut-up and ripped up pictures of Michael. As disturbing as that was, the thought of someone like that knowing my new address was even more disturbing.

I wonder which one of our little internet terrorists wants to claim credit?

  6. Bonnie,
    Like you, the two things that disturb me most about this promissory document are;
if Branca was fired, why is he stil a trustee of the MJ Publishing Trust?
why is Michael's signature there if he said no to this deal?
Is this doucment a forgery, or is the signature a forgery?
    Please be careful Bonnie!

Was it a US Stamp ? anonymously insane anyway. Whatever no worry BUT if I were you, I would inform a special Internet division at the Police for a search. Or did you already talk about your Blog in your new surroundings ? Hope you find out & be careful anyway.

  8. Bonnie, just read your post about the package. How could anybody have known your address? Sounds to me like you're being stalked. Do you have a private listing in the phone directory? If not, then you should organise it. Creepy thing to do but still really childish nonetheless.

Great blog again Bonnie thanks. I just completely agree with everything that's been said here. They all sound like a bunch of hustlers and vultures. In many ways I wish Michael had never bought that catalogue. It just seems to have come with a curse - the curse of greed and avarice. I often wonder if his life had have been less complicated if he had never bought it. Would he have been set up the way he was with the child molestation allegations? It's obvious from what Michael has told us himself that Sony were doing their best to ruin him into bankruptcy. I ask myself if he undertook those AEG concerts because of the heavy loan repayments and if so, look at the cost.

At any rate, if any of these vultures get their hands on it now then of course it will be Bandier through Branca. I could never quite get the friendship between Michael and Malnik. Malnik strikes me as somewhat sleazy and he was full of himself on his own website saying what a good friend he was to Michael by lending him the bail money in 2003.

My concern is for Mijac. It is the jewel in the crown and once it is safely with the children, I will feel peace. I believe in years to come that Michael's own songs will be an absolute treasure. This is his music and this is the music we know he gave to us without interference from others. I pray that it stays with the children. It's value has already risen dramatically which will attract greed and scheming.

  9. Dear Bonnie, power and money are in the hands of the devil! Michael was surrounded by terrible and dangerous demons. Bonnie, sorry for the outburst but really hurts to know that Michael, a musical genius, he was so manipulated without scruple. Lisa Marie and Debbie have complained of these blood sucking demons.
Regarding Taraborelli, I read the book by Aphrodite Jones talks about the process in 2005 and says: "A special thanks to J. Randy Taraborelli and read The Magic & the Madness so you realize who was Michael Jackson". But, who is Taraborelli? Aphrodite I like writing about Michael.
    God bless you Bonnie!

    >>> I believe, because of the anomaly in the signature itself (a second, lighter signing of the last name above the signature) that Michael may have believed he was signing something else and that something else could have had carbon paper. When you xerox something, carbon produced signatures look as sharp and authentic as if by pen.

Also if you look at the document dates at the top of the first page of the document, the date is September 29, 1999, but the date of signature on the second page is August of 2003 and that is where the suspected carbon signature appears. May not be forgery but certainly fraud if that is what happened.

It was mailed from the U.S. No, no one where I live knows I do a blog. The only people have even talked to locally are new people at church and clerks in the stores and this blog has not been mentioned. The postage mark on the package said Centerreach New York. I don't know anyone from there.

Karin said - "How could anybody have known your address? Sounds to me like you're being stalked. Do you have a private listing in the phone directory? If not, then you should organise it."

My husband set up our utilities and we both agreed on unlisted. That's why this bothers me. I know how easy it is to find out someone's address though, even unlisted. I've done it before back when I investigated online companies for defrauding my advertisers. It's not that hard when you have contacts in certain places.

What you said about you wishing Michael never bought the catalog . . . At one time I felt the same way. Now I am glad he did, because THAT is what brought attention to how filthy this industry is. It is a crying shame because I absolutely love music. Nothing has been able to get into me as effectively as music and again, greed has spoiled it.

There is so much more to this than just the catalog and the billions it is worth. It is deeper than that. Michael took on a battle and he did it willingly and like he said in "Cry" he cannot do this by himself. He wants help, but he is the one that stepped out.

I would like to see other artists come forward, lay down their mics, fold their arms across their chests and say NO MORE.

All this is being manipulated for a reason. It is about control of something that forms thoughts, motivates people and inspires people. Some of the detractors may make fun of this but when you look at what Michael was all about? They attacked one of the most gentle, loving and humble of the art world and the most GOD loving. There is something to that.

    >>> Daniela I have read Taraborrelli and judging by what he wrote in that book, he did not know Michael. He MET him but did not KNOW him . . . big difference. And if he DID know Michael, then what he wrote in that book of his was deliberate character assasination. Aphrodite acknowleging him in HER book I can only say one thing . . . birds of a feather." I know Tom Mesereau wrote the intro to her book, but at the time we ALL thought Aphrodite was on Michael's side. But she is and always has been press. She has endorsed both Taraborelli and Thomson NEITHER of which are, nor ever were Michael's friends. Michael knew this.

Question: Why is it that Michael never acknowleged nor THANKED either Geraldine Hughes OR Aphrodite Jones? Why no gratitude toward Taraborrelli?

I have mentioned this before, but it seems funny that during BOTH allegations, someone from the "other side" comes forward to write a book defending Michael and berating the press . . . as Thomson is now doing. The press is not the devil here, it is the devil's advocate. Deflecting blame to the press draws attention away from the real culprit and as far as I am concerned, none of these people have any integrity. I know that is not popular with some people that post here, but I have to look at liars being defended by . . . well, liars.

If any of these people truly, TRULY wanted to help Michael, they would have gone to battle for him BEFORE and DURING these allegations, not after . . . AND they would be leaning on the real culprits in this . . . not the scapegoat of the press!

  13. Bonnie – thank for this great post. I do not quite understand this Goldman Sak’s deal. Why is that we never heard of this deal before? Oh well, there are so many things we never heard in the world of Michael Jackson so maybe this one is one of them.

Is it really true Michael was trying to sell his Sony/ATV share or was it made up story by Roberts? I couldn’t believe this to be true because I always think the catalog is very dear to Michael and there was a deal to sell it? Why? Was the deal behind his back maybe and that was why it failed when he learned what they were trying to do?

Well, On the last blog, you posted a link that refuted the claim that Michael had a dire financial problem; therefore, if we believe the Goldman Sak’s deal to be true, was he trying to pay his debt by selling the catalog?

Sorry if my questions are repetitive. I am trying to have clear idea with this deal I am baffled with.

  14. I am sorry Bonnie for someone to send you cut up pictures of Michael. What is that they are trying to prove? I bet they are some who are really mad that you stand up for Michael and truly protecting him trying to make you mad.

But what the person(s) who did this forgets he/she is showing how messed up their thinking is and actually has nothing to do with you or Michael.

  15. @Mimi - We never heard of the Goldman Sachs deal before because it never went through. Michael refused the deal. It wasn't something Branca, Grubman or Wietzman wanted publicized. It would have been nice if fans new more about this garbage back then but the press was not on Michael's side.

Michael NEVER tried to sell his Share of the catalog. Roberts is full of you-know-what. If Michael was trying to sell his catalog wouldn't he have taken the deal? Beyond that, Michael would have had others in a bidding war if he ever put that up for sale. Roberts is trying to wipe Branca's a** (oh! I mean slate) clean.

No, Michael never tried to sell the catalog. This whole battle through the 15+ years was because Michael refused to turn over control of the catalog.
    ************************************

On the cut up Michael pics . . . Trying to scare me? I don't know. I was mad at first (Michael? cut up pics of Michael? How COULD they!) I really just think it was a prank and a dumb one at that. What it tells me is that they know how to use scissors as one person told me, LOL! Maybe we can upgrade them to a stapler next?

  16. Bonnie, New York stamp - can you do a process of elimination somehow? You need a clue to give you a heads up on this. It's malicious and nasty and somebody has taken time out to find your address. Probably a prank but a nasty, intrusive one at that.

I agree with everything you say Bonnie. The music industry seems to be top heavy with some ruthless types. Even the lawyers sit on both sides of the fence with major conflicts between their client and the corporation involved.

Aphrodite Jones lost me when she called Charles Thompson "a sweetie" some months back when she was interviewed for the All for Love Blog. Nothing sweet about TwistedVision's blogs. I thought to myself she hasn't even bothered to familiarise herself with his history. But then he was the one who basically wrote an article post June 09 which was pretty much extracted from her book on the trial. He utterly sang her praises and her book on that blog of his and so a mutual admiration society was born. He didn't have to do much research on the trial as she attended it and did the work for her book. Still, he received accolades for it and so did she. Overnight he developed his own fan club and still has a huge following in the MJ Community.

  17. @Karin - That's funny, Taraborrelli did an article on the trial too, talked about Michael looking directly at him because I remember mentioning that article in the blog I did about RJ and that is when facebook pages and blogs started getting shut down all over the place.

Yes, there is an agenda going on and it's to protect Sony's little butt. The writing was on the wall when all that happened back this summer and trust me, it was a shocker that one little smart-allec comment I made about them working for Sony caused so much locking down of facebook pages and deletion of blogs.

What are they doing now? Singing the praises of John Branca and the "Michael" Album which is not even authentic vocals. They know it. They don't care about Michael . . . they're just doing a job for self reward.

It's not plagiarism if you have someone's permission.

  18. A short extract from "The Magic & The Madness" from R. Taraborelli which till todate shocks me as a "taunt" on Michael who actually looked so elegant & dignified during the 2005 trial :

"One day, Michael hobbled by me, smiled and nodded his recognition of me. I smiled back and gave him a thumbs up. And as he passed, I remember that he smelled like old, musty clothing. It was as if he was a wax figure in a museum, one that had been there too long and was in need of care and attention."

Even if the biography also had good passages on Michael why be so MEAN & still fuel more humiliation on a man already in distress ? It said a lot in fact : R. Taraborelli at some stage bore a grudge against Michael or had to go into sensationalism to sell through Michael. Michael read much too often such "innocuous" hurting stuff. SO SAD !

  19. lineCH quoted Taraborelli "I remember that he smelled like old, musty clothing. It was as if he was a wax figure in a museum, one that had been there too long and was in need of care and attention."

I'm just guessing, but maybe what he smelled was one of Michael's favorite perfumes, Bal a Versailles. It can easily remind you of your grandmother. I personally like it and bought some for myself. As for needing care and attention, anyone who saw pics of him during the trial can see he was impeccably dressed and groomed. I believe K. Faye said she and M. Bush came to his house everyday to get him ready for court. J. Randy, I think your perception was way off there.

  20. LineCH and Rhoda -

I think that was Taraborrelli's own musty smell blowing back in his face. Someone forgot to tell Randy that he needs to remove his clothing from the washer the same week they finished washing.
